Balanced curves and architectural silhouettes that have been glazed, bent, rolled and cut. I’m talking about Arteriors’ guest designer partnership with Workshop/APD and the 54 pieces that made it through their rigorous editing process. The Workshop/APD for Arteriors lighting and decor collection features a distinctively minimal aesthetic that distinguishes it from their more traditional offerings of the past, with Workshop/APD’s “crafted modern” approach holding its own weight. This is the brand’s first collaboration with a design and architecture firm, and includes pieces for both residential and commercial interiors.
“For this collection, our conceptual approach focused on “meaning in making”, highlighting a number of traditional techniques such as glazing, rolling clay, and slumping or etching glass,” said Workshop/APD founding principal Andrew Kotchen. “The result is a true collaboration, drawing on the diverse creative perspectives within our firm and the expertise of the Arteriors team and its global network of makers and craftspeople. Together we’ve created a compelling offering that strips away any unnecessary embellishment to instead emphasize technique, materiality, simplicity and scale.”
Workshop/APD design director and senior associate Andrew Kline, and product designer Ruoxi Wang, looked to prioritize the development of pieces with a versatility that transcends design typologies, styles and regions. “Lighting is the core of this collection, and we wanted to ensure that each sconce and pendant could stand alone as a beautiful, functional residential accent piece, but also work well in multiples and in combination with complementary styles,” said Workshop/APD founding principal Matthew Berman. “Each of the pieces in the collection is extremely versatile and multifunctional, offering designers the opportunity to create and play regardless of project type.”
The Workshop/APD for Arteriors collection has launched as part of the Arteriors Spring/Summer 2021 Collection and is available online and in Arteriors’ four showrooms in New York, Dallas, Los Angeles and London. To learn more about the Workshop/APD for Arteriors collection, visit arteriorshome.com.
